Obenewa Amponsah

Obenewa Amponsah serves as the CEO of the Steve Biko Foundation – a community development organization inspired by the legacy of the late anti-apartheid activist Bantu Stephen Biko. Having joined the organization in 2006, Obenewa has undertaken a number of roles within the institution, from overseeing International Partnerships to Fundraising to serving as the Director at large. She was also an integral member of the leadership team that conceptualized and established the Steve Biko Centre, a national legacy project located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Of Ghanaian descent, Obenewa was born and raised in the Washington DC area. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Boston University (USA)—majoring in International Relations and minoring in History; and her Masters degree in International Relations from the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). Obenewa has volunteered for a number of non-profit institutions and is currently a director of Milani Enterprises, a female-led investment group; and is the founder and convener of iLifa Women’s Group, an intergenerational dialogue program. Prior to joining SBF in 2006, she obtained expansive work experience in governance and development. This includes her position as a Senior Consultant with GoodWorks International, a business development and government relations firm; as well as her tenure as the Administrator for the African Presidential Archives & Research Centre, an entity dedicated to chronicling democratic transitions in Africa and the leadership of African Heads of State. Obenewa’s personal and professional interests focus on fostering Pan African solutions to facilitate development in Africa and the Diaspora. She has published a number of articles under this theme.

Siphamandla Zondi

Siphamandla Zondi is a catalytic speaker, seasoned leader, teacher and a mentor of young people, committed to helping others rediscover their citizen-leadership. Zondi has 15 years of experience in intellectual leadership and thought leadership in the NGO and academic environment. As a trustee in the International Third World Leaders Association (ITWLA) founded by the late Dr Myles Munroe, he has taught on leadership in various parts of the world. As a member of the SADC RISDP Task Force and an African Union Task Team on Post-Conflict and Reconstruction, he is part of a group of agents of change in Africa. He currently heads the Institute for Global Dialogue, a renown think tank on global affairs and a faculty in the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute. He holds BA, BA Honours and Higher Diploma in Education by the University of Durban-Westville; and a Masters and Doctorate from Cambridge University, UK. He and his wife, Nomusa, are blessed with two daughters, Thando and Enhle, plus many other adopted mentees.

She was then recruited to be part of the 1st team of presenters for the 1st batch of privately owned radio stations that were issued by Icasa (P4 Radio). She helped grow the stations popularity and helped it gain prominence. She was then recruited to be an on air personality for Kaya FM. While there, she earned another milestone as the 1st female broadcaster for a morning show on a commercial radio station. She also presented and produced a world music show for the BBC World service. Two years into a breakfast show which people still talk about today, KG made a decision to expand her knowledge of the business of radio by applying for and getting the position of programmes manager for P4 DBN. That was another milestone as she was the 1st black female programmes manager for a commercial station. She left the station after growing it’s audiences by 355 000 listeners. In pursuit of expanding her horizons, her path took her to TV where she was appointed as a Project Manager: Programming for SABC3. Not long after, she was called back to radio on a weekend basis to help grow the numbers on the Metro FM Sunday jazz show, a show that offered her the opportunity to share with the country the beauty that is South African Music. She accepted another challenge to join the newly revamped Radio 2000’s on-air team as a mid-morning show host, which she anchored successfully and helped the station get closer to the once illusive 1million listenership. In her ability to diversify her capability in the media, KG is now the host of Radio 2000’s current affairs talk show, a show that is fast entrenching itself in the talk show segment of our airwaves.

Rosie was appointed the ambassador for UN Women to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, part of the Africa Unite campaign: To stop violence against women and girls in Africa. Rosie climbed Mt Kilimanjaro again in 2014 to raise awareness for The Tomorrow trust and the Kilimanjaro Initiative. The second attempt she reached Uhuru summit, despite falling ill and an hour and a half behind her group. MEDIA TRAINING Rosie offers extensive media and presenter training workshops. The workshops include voice and breathing techniques, how to stand and present yourself in front of the camera. The training includes techniques of mastering interviewing skills and how to pose certain issues and questions. He is also a singer and drummer for a church and community choir. Thapelo studied dance and choreography at South Africa’s leading contemporary dance school (Johannesburg Dance Foundation). He graduated from the Johannesburg Dance Foundation in 2006. Dance however was and is not Thapelo’s only passion. He has toured South Africa performing at the Barnyard Theatre Festival in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg and has shared the stage with local comedy stalwarts like Kurt Schoonraad, Mel Miller, Riaad Moosa, Dave Levinsohn, Cokey Falkow and David Kau.

This rock-solid stand-up act has come a long way in a short time, recently being chosen for the prestigious 46664 series of comedy shows, touring the arenas of South Africa, as well as several African countries, including Nigeria and Ghana. Known for his trademark hat and funky urban stylish look, Ndumiso has headlined all the important stand-up gigs around: Blacks Only, Heavyweights Comedy Jam, Nando’s Comedy Festival as well as hosting both the Vodacom Comedy Campus Tour and Vodacom Funny Festival and debuted his first One Man Show, “Here I Stand” at On Broadway Theatre in CPT in August 2011. He is also a firm favourite amongst corporate clients and they frequently book him for their various events.

Ndumiso’s material is an honest and hilarious observation of everyday life in South Africa, the diversity of South African cultures and how unique black people can be, especially the newer, younger generation. He paints the nation from a young black man’s point of view. His ability to adapt his unique style to diverse audiences is proof that this relatively young performer is blessed with talent and instinct, and his rapid rise is well deserved.

Tumi Morake

Since discovering a knack for comedy in 2006, acclaimed actress and writer Tumi Morake has made a name for herself as one of a handful of successful female comedians in South Africa. She has shared stages with comics such as David Kau, Marc Lottering, Stuart Taylor and Chris Forrest, at festivals such as Blacks Only, Whack Jobs, Heavyweights Comedy Jam, King Size Comedy, Old Mutual Comedy Encounters and many more.

Amongst many recent career highlights, gigs that stand out include MCing at the 8th annual Woodstock Festival in 2007, being the only female among international and local acts at the 2009 Vodacom Funny Festival, performing at the inaugural Comics Choice Awards (2011) and being part of the 46664 It’s No Joke line-up, this acclaimed comedienne, whose comedy style has been described as in-your-face and slightly provocative. She has also performed on stage, on television and in films; in English, Afrikaans, Sesotho, Setswana and Isizulu across South Africa and as far as Prague, Paris and London. She has worked on a number of theatre productions in lead roles, such as Another Child and 1/4 Life Crisis, Maru, and Is this Africa, which was presented at the FNB Dance Umbrella and the African Dance Festival in Paris in 2006. Tumi’s acting and writing career currently focuses on television, with credits including the roles of Pabi in Soul Buddies (SABC1), Persistence in SABC 2′s Askies, and the lead Millicent in Izoso Connection, SABC1 (on which she is also credited as a writer). She has had cameo appearances in the flagship shows Justice For All, Nomzamo and City Ses’la, and is also among the team of writers for the SABC sitcom Nomzamo, as well as the 2007 SABC comedy-drama For Sale. Film credits include the international award-winning films Jerusalema, Skin and Joburg.

Riaad Moosa

Riaad Moosa is one of South Africa’s most popular and acclaimed comedians with a style of his own and a coveted Comics Choice Award (2011) to his name. Riaad, also a practicing medical doctor, is known as “the Comedy Doctor”, who certainly seems to have the remedy for the nation’s ills: a healthy dose of laughter, “straight up – hold the aspirin”.

This busy stand-up comic’s schedule is packed with a combination of one-man show runs (usually sold out) which have included “Strictly Halaal” and “Riaad Moosa For The Baracka”, collaborations and productions like the hit variety comedy show “3 Wise Men” (in which he starred with Marc Lottering and Nik Rabinowitz), corporate events and media engagements. Riaad is a regular presenter of a segment entitled “The Second Opinion – with Dr Riaad Moosa” on the E-News channel’s satirical news programme “Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola”, and has appeared in various TV and film productions, such as “Laugh Out Loud” (SA’s largest stand-up comedy show); he was also a writer and performer for SABC 1’s “Pure Monate Show”, which achieved cult status amongst South Africa’s urban youth; and he starred in one of 2005’s highest grossing movies “Crazy Monkey – Straight Outta Benoni”. His standout stand-up comedy skills were recently included in the DVD for the successful “Blacks Only” comedy shows, along with other local comedians; and he also featured in the Anant Singh/John Vlismas produced comedy-collective feature film “Outrageous”, which played at cinemas nationwide in 2009, and was released on DVD. Riaad was one of the headline acts along with SA’s other top comedians (including Trevor Noah, David Kau, John Vlismas, Tumi Morake and Marc Lottering) supporting international superstar Eddie Izzard for the 46664 “It’s No Joke” concert in 2010.

Prof Cecil Bodibe comes from the background of Higher Education where he spent 30 years – occupying positions such as Dean of Students , Vice – Principal Learner Support , and Vice Principal Student and Alumni Affairs . From 2009 to date , he has served as Director of Special Projects at Empowaworx – where he has facilitated over 60 workshops on Diversity and Inclusion . In one company Empowaworx stayed for five years, working with staff at Senior levels, right down to operational staff. Prof Cecil was the Principal facilitator in all these workshops. He has deep insights on matters of change and lasting transformation. He has worked both in the public and private sectors , mainly on Diversity and Inclusion, but also on Strategy, leadership, team building, research and organizational performance. He is an accomplished academic and public speaker.
